Sabine Verheyen calls for real monitoring of the European Media Freedom Act
The European Parliament Vice-President says, in an interview with 2eu.brussels, that media freedom is not undermined only through direct censorship, but also through quieter pressure on governance, funding, media ownership, appointments and state advertising. Sabine Verheyen says EMFA implementation must be assessed through its concrete effects on journalists and newsrooms, and that the Commission’s Rule of Law Report should give stronger visibility to how the regulation is applied in Member States.
